If you always tell the truth, you never have to remember anything

-Will Rogers

Hello,

We are the Southern California Artists Association, formed to bring new art education programs and arts-related activities to the Southern California region. We are located in beautiful Laguna Canyon, on the outskirts of Laguna Beach.

We are not dedicated to any one medium or school of art and offer membership to artists of all types. We welcome professionals, non-professionals and full-time college students to our ranks.

We maintain connections to other nonprofit public benefit groups, such as schools, art festivals, other art associations and art museums.

One of our programs is the Atelier, an on-going series of uninstructed, figurative drawing and painting workshops, held four times per week, all year long.

We have scheduled exhibitions, covering a variety of themes and mediums, for 2008 and 2009, as well as demonstrations, lectures, reviews and critiques. Please scroll down to see the announcement of our first figurative exhibition: Go Figure!

On behalf of SoCal Artists, I hope you will consider membership in our association, joining many of your fellow artists and art lovers for what promises to be a fun and rewarding journey into the future of the arts.

Come Unglued!
Artists Helping Artists
Feeling stuck in place with a particularly pesky art piece?  It's so close to being one of your best. But it's........ just .......... not .......... cooperating!

Well, here's your chance to get some help with that  #$@&% painting. (or print or sculpture or whatever) A chance to get yourself Unglued and get on with it!

Bring one of your recent efforts down to the Studio on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 6:00 until 8:00 and get some powerful positive feedback from your fellow artists. (Who will also help you discover the things you could have done better)

The next session will be held Wednesday evening, May 14th and we guarantee it will give you a fresh perspective on your work. The last one was a blast and everyone got something positive from it.

These sessions are guided by experienced moderators, who will coax you and your fellow artists to spend 10 to 15 minutes per piece to find the Strong Points, Weak Points and discover some ideas that will help you Come Unglued!

Because of the time constraints, we limit the critiques to one piece per person and try to end each session at 8:00, though that hasn't been easy with everyone wanting to keep the discussion going.

These are potluck events, with everyone bringing food and drinks to share as we talk. So come early, have a bite and glass of your favorite beverage and enjoy a fun evening of artists talking about art.

There will be a per artwork charge of $5 collected at the start, to cover a portion of the Studio overhead. If, due to the size of the group, we run out of time before your piece is discussed, you'll get your money back of course. If that happens often, we'll schedule these sessions more frequently.
